Slow Progress, but Progress.

Hello all,

Working with the contractors has not been as productive as I had been led to believe. In general, they have been very good at scanning in and OCR'ing material at a rate of 100 pages per week. That is why all of the text files are done for all of the remaining books. Their editing of them has also been solid. Unfortunately, their use of InDesign has been not up to expectations. That has meant the reworking of all of the initial layouts. I expected that Griffin Mountain, the first book they worked on to be the book where we would set up a system for how to do the layout and set specifications and standards for how specifically to do it. The main problem I did not expect was that the next book they were to work on, the SoloQuest Collection, would be worked on by someone different, who has had to go through the whole learning process again. The same for Borderlands. Thus, this has led to several delays I did not plan for, and also more of my time was spent educating and reviewing than moving things forward at the pace expected.

Fortunately, I am doing the final pass through the layout of the SoloQuest Collection, with an expected delivery of it to backers early next week. Borderlands will be not too long after that, and then on through the remaining books.

Ultimately, we are getting closer to wrapping this up, and I appreciate your patience and support.

Latest Update

To all members of the tribe,

Work continues on Borderlands and the Soloquest Collection, both of which should be done in a few weeks. An unexpected two-week delay has pushed them back a bit on the schedule, but the drafts I have been receiving show that they will get done soon enough.

More info as I have it,

As always, thank you for your patience and support.

Progress Report for the end of February
about 8 years ago – Mon, Feb 26, 2018 at 12:49:04 AM

To all members of the tribe,

I have just uploaded the Griffin Mountain Player Handouts PDF onto BackerKit and made it available for download. Backers getting Griffin Mountain as part of their rewards should be getting an email notification for it any moment. It contains lots of maps, and basic Citadel info for ease of game play. The large poster sized maps will be available shortly as well.

Work progresses on both Borderlands and the SoloQuest Collection, which is a combination if Soloquest, SoloQuest 2: Scorpion Hall, and Soloquest 3: The Snow King's Bride

As always, thank you for your patience and support.

Griffin Mountain download ready via BackerKit
about 8 years ago – Mon, Feb 12, 2018 at 12:52:37 AM

To all members of the tribe,

I have just uploaded the Griffin Mountain PDF onto BackerKit, and will be sending out the download notification in a few moments. All Backers getting this PDF as part of their rewards should be getting that download notification. If you do not get the email, you can always just log on to BackerKit and download it from your account. If you have any problems please message me and I will be happy to assist you.

The PDF is complete, but it is going to have some additional cleanup done, especially for the links in the Index. Everything should work just fine, but some index entries need to be deleted because they are redundant.

The Borderlands PDF should be available in approximately two weeks.

As always, thank you for backing this project, and for your patience and support.

Progress at last, and the plan for the remaining PDFs
about 8 years ago – Sun, Feb 04, 2018 at 12:33:51 AM

To all members of the tribe,

This coming week I will be making Griffin Mountain available for download to all backers who have it as one of their rewards. It's 220 pages of Gloranthan Gold, and my favorite RQ campaign. The final files will be heading my way on Tuesday, and then a day of last quality checks will be immediately followed with getting it on BackerKit. Backers due this PDF will get an email notification, as before.

The next book being worked on as of next week is Borderlands, followed by TrollPak, Pavis, Big Rubble, the SoloQuest Collection, and the RuneQuest Companion. Close to the same order the books originally came out back in the 1980s.

I am not the only one on this project any more. I have contracted two layout teams (Allzone and Symbiosis) to do the actual layout of the remaining books. I have staggered the projects between them so while one team is busy on layout I am setting up the next book with the other team. Each of the two teams can produce about 100 pages in a week. Yes, one of the teams will have completed Griffin Mountain in approximately two weeks, which far exceeds my production levels.  I wish I had started using these firms months ago. My apologies for not doing that sooner.

I am working with them every week to keep the files flowing to them, answering layout questions, reviewing files, and such. Like all of you, I want to get this Kickstarter wrapped up as soon as possible. I will announce the availability of each PDF a day or so before it is available for download. Yes, far more regular updates, reporting substantial progress, will be forthcoming.

Like before, I will be setting up forum topics on basicroleplaying.org for each book. That is my preferred way to collect any typos or errors that you may spot.

As always, thank you for backing this project, and for your patience and support.
